THE CRIDFORD INN TEAM
The Cridford Inn team are passionate about creating amazing experiences. Ness and Paul took over the Inn late summer 2018 and and are joined by Head Chef, Johnny Varah & Front of House Manager, Jade with the determination to make the food and service at The Cridford inn exceptional.
Ness and Paul moved with their 2 sons from Surrey to carry out their dream of creating a special place for people to visit. A warm, friendly atmosphere with delicious food created fresh on site from local producers and unique comfortable accommodation. The team keeps on growing with like minded people.
We are so blessed to work at this beautiful Devon longhouse in the stunning Teign Valley and are all determined to make our guests experiences memorable when they visit.
Head Chef - Johnny Varah
Johnny started straight from school washing up in a commercial kitchen. Found he really enjoyed it and worked his way up through the ranks of the brigade and developed a passion for cooking.
He developed a passion for Asian cooking when he was working in Australia at Umami as their Sous chef. It was fantastic learning experience working with Chinese chefs that didn’t speak any English communicating through sign and Google translate in order to put out a high tempo, high-grade food service. It was challenging but he got through it and loved it. Loved the people worked with, loved the food they put out, and was some of the best food he’s ever done.
He also worked at Little Valley in Australia. Whilst Johnny was there the restaurant won a Chef’s Hat Award (a high standard food award). Johnny ran the back section and the Wok section, cooked the main courses and was in control of the side courses.
Johnny loves feeding people, giving people good food, and giving them something to smile about and tell their friends about. Johnny loves the people he works with and likes to create a little family with his team.
Johnny is one of six children. His claim to fame is that his Great Uncle is the founder of the Samaritans charity.
Front of House Manager - Jade
Jade has always lived in this part of Devon with her family and from a young age has ridden horses. Whilst still a teenager she traveled to Australia with her cousin and worked on a ranch. It was a great experience even though they had a very different way of treating the horses there.
Jade first started working in hospitality while still in school as a KP at The Riverside in Bovey Tracey. During the 4 years that she worked there she progresses to the weekend manager taking on a lot of responsibility at such a young age. When she returned from her trip to Australia she started working at Finlake Holiday Park in the bar and restaurant and doing functions that were held there like weddings. It was at Finlake that Jade met Johnny, her partner and Head Chef of The Cridford. The two of them travelled to Australia where they both worked for a very high end Asian restaurant called Little Valley. Jade really enjoyed the experience there especially the passion they had for the whole experience they delivered to the customer and it was then that she knew this is what she wants to do with her career creating exceptional dining experiences for her customers.
On returning from Australia Jade met Ness and Paul at The Cridford after Johnny became the Head Chef here. She was the perfect fit for our ambitions and we are so excited to have her experience, knowledge and passion managing the customer experience at The Cridford.
